"Finding Truth in an Age of Fake News" is a non-partisan discussion of the spread of Fake News and its real-world consequences, including Brexit, the measles outbreak in the U.S., and fanning racial tensions in developing countries. The presentation examines the origins of fake news and the media landscape that encourages it, and includes practical tips and handouts for becoming a smart consumer of news in all forms.
"Do We Still Have Free and Fair Elections in the U.S.?"
In this presentation, Catherine shares information about how America’s election systems have been challenged by both outside and inside influences over the past 20 years. Through a combination of hacking by bad actors, partisan gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the proliferation of insecure electronic voting machines and tabulators, the right to vote has been discounted and in some cases, denied. She’ll share specific examples of election hacking, including the 2017 Senate race in Georgia’s 6th District.
"The History of Immigration Since President Carter"
News reports continue to conflict and confuse Americans about our Immigration policy. In this discussion, Catherine provides an historical view of immigration and shines a spotlight on specifically what has changed that has created the current crisis at the border.
